Case Study: Generations Health Care Initiatives, Strategic Planning

Challenge: Generations Health Care Initiatives (GHCI), a Duluth-based nonprofit that identifies community health challenges and coordinates efforts to address them, sought an extensive strategic planning process following a change in leadership.

Northspan’s Role: Led an intensive strategic planning process that included facilitation of three sessions at board meetings, multiple facilitated staff sessions, and an extensive review of the vision, mission, and values. Staff also compiled and analyzed data from stakeholder interviews conducted by GHCI staff. GHCI’s board and staff brought valuable, wide-ranging expertise to the process and required careful management to reach consensus.

Results: The year-long process guided GHCI to a new strategic plan that had complete buy-in from the board and staff.
