Celebrating Three Years of MNOppCo

The Minnesota Opportunity Collaborative wrapped up three years of opportunity zone development webinars with a final event on November 18.

The last webinar explored success stories across the state, highlighted the support networks that have made projects happen, and looked to the future of the MNOppCo incentive. You can view the recorded session on the MNOppCo website along with all past webinars.

Since the Minnesota Opportunity Collaborative launched in 2018, the initiative has sought to educateMinnesota Opportunity Collaborative stakeholders across the state on opportunity zones, create a space to connect developers with funders, and lay out pathways to projects that create meaningful benefits for communities.

The bi-monthly workshops allowed Minnesota opportunity zone stakeholders to learn about the incentive. Events featured resources for communities working on opportunity zone projects as well as speakers including:

  • opportunity zone developers
  • subject matter experts on the incentive
  • national thought leaders on opportunity zones and equitable development

“We’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished with MNOppCo over the past three years,” said Northspan Research Director & Senior Consultant Karl Schuettler. “We appreciate all of the support and the many partners who have made MNOppCo possible. Working together, we’ve helped to re-frame what investment can look like in long-neglected communities and laid the groundwork for some excellent projects with real benefits for neighborhoods and towns across the state.”

MNOppCo has been made possible by support from four 2021 sponsors: Department of Employment and Economic Development, Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation, Duluth LISC, and Southwest Initiative Foundation.

While MNOppCo’s webinar series has concluded, the website will remain active. We invite continued submissions of projects and are happy to connect with potential developers, investors, or interested stakeholders. For more information, reach out to Karl Schuettler at kschuettler@northspan.org
