Case Study: Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Strategic Plan

FOND DU LAC TRIBAL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE STRATEGIC PLAN | 2022-2023

Opportunity: Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC), a Cloquet, Minnesota-based school that is the nation’s only institution that is both a tribally chartered college and a member of a state college system, sought a new strategic plan. The college was emerging from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, recently experienced multiple changes to senior leadership, and needed to develop a new overarching framework to guide a series of plans to move the college forward.

Role: Northspan facilitated a year-long strategic planning process that included campus and community-wide survey work, focus groups with students and community stakeholders, and two full-day strategic planning sessions with a strategy committee of faculty and staff. Additional workshops with the campus community helped refine the strategic plan language and build toward a plan that represented a broad set of interests around the college.

Results: FDLTCC has implemented the new strategic plan with the college’s mission, core values, and vision, as guiding tenets. The college’s unique Union of Cultures identity is integrated throughout each of the 5 strategic directions.
