In the past decade, the State of Minnesota has been the site of over 15 feature films, countless commercials, documentaries and training films. Since 1996 the Upper Minnesota Film Office (UMFO) has been promoting Northeastern Minnesota as a location for contract filming of movies, documentaries, commercials and related video media productions. 

Established by the Northspan Group, Inc. and its partners, Minnesota Power, City of Duluth, Duluth Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Iron Range Economic Alliance, UMFO works collaboratively with the Minnesota Film Board and other regional, national, and international interests to attract video production opportunities. The Film Office has become the single point of contact for coordinating professional responses to prospect needs and expectations.
